Japan has a lot of unique buildings, one of them is Gate Tower Building. This 16-storey building has a busy highway running straight through its 5th, 6th and 7th floors. On the building’s floor information board on the ground floor, the tenants for the three floors are listed as the Hanshin Expressway. The elevator itself skips from the 4th floor straight to the 8th.
This building is the result of compromise between the land owner and the Japanese government, because the owner refused to give right away the road to the government.
The highway doesn’t affect business inside the Gate Tower Building, as the owner installed noise-proofing walls and flooring. It also does not make contact with the building. The structure surrounding the highway keeps noise and vibration out as well.
So, who wants to ride through this highway?
